The opportunity?
Charter Next Generation (CNG), a material science company and provider of specialty films and engineered solutions, has a significant presence in Milton and is looking to expand its facility and capabilities. The company plans to add a cast film plant, recycling center, and film extrusion plant, enabling it to expand its manufacturing and distribution capabilities.
For this expansion to occur, upgrades to the transportation infrastructure around the facility are required.
How does the “fix” benefit the community?
Improvements and the widening of Vickerman Road near the Milton plant, along with modification to the Wisconsin Highway 59 and Vickerman Road intersection, are crucial to accommodate transportation needs associated with the expansion of CNG and increase vehicle access to the company’s campus. These improvements will enable roads around CNG to be classified as a Class A Truck Route and facilitate more efficient movement of raw materials and finished products.
Road improvements will lead to more economic opportunities in the region. CNG expects the new facility to create approximately 100 jobs.
What makes the investment possible?
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation awarded Milton a $500,000 Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant to improve the roads. The TEA program provides financial assistance to communities to support transportation infrastructure improvements that will help attract new employers or encourage existing employers to expand.
