The Situation
Central Wisconsin Airport’s (CWA) existing general aviation terminal, built in 1971, no longer meets the needs of today’s pilots, passengers, business travelers, and airport operations. The aging facility has become undersized and outdated, limiting the airport’s ability to provide the level of service and amenities expected at a modern aviation gateway.
What is the Fix and How Does it Benefit the Community?
CWA has begun construction on a new 6,800-square-foot general aviation terminal in Mosinee. The facility will replace the existing terminal with a modern, customer-focused space featuring an expanded lobby and waiting area, a pilot lounge, a reception area, a fireplace, a snack bar, and additional passenger amenities.
The project will enhance the experience for private and business aviation users, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the airport’s role as a key transportation and economic asset for central Wisconsin.
What Makes the Investment Possible?
The approximately $6.6 million project is being funded primarily through federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) programs. The legislation, signed into law in 2021, provided significant funding for airport infrastructure improvements nationwide, helping airports modernize facilities, improve safety, and support economic growth. The terminal project is part of CWA’s broader effort to modernize its general aviation facilities and position the airport to meet future demand.
What’s Next?
Construction officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 29, 2026. Airport officials anticipate the new terminal will be completed by late 2026 or early 2027, providing a modern front door for visitors arriving in central Wisconsin.
